What do you do for a friend that you have known for almost half your life on their birthday, and during a pandemic? You socially knock them down a peg or two at a distance. This was my process.

A certain attitude or outlook on life could be found everywhere after the financial crisis a decade ago — if you looked hard enough — and looking back at the music of the early 2010s might be a starting point on what to expect post-pandemic.

Brilliant — and incredibly fitting — the last piece of post that arrived in my letter-box on Christmas Eve wasn’t a gift, a card, or even a cheerful advertisement. No. Of all things, I received a bill. Even at the worst of times, I had never started the holiday off with a bill — though it’s quite possibly the most 2020-thing I could have received.
